Now that spring is here everyone will be doing lots of spring cleaning. That means you have a better chance of coming in contact with a not so friendly eight-legged friend.

There are two types of spiders in our area that are venomous, and you should seek treatment immediately if you’ve been bitten by one of these spiders. Black widows and brown recluse spiders can have life-threatening consequences if not treated as soon as possible. Harmless spider bites will only appear to be red, inflamed and sometimes itchy or painful, but won’t produce other symptoms.

As listed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the following possible symptoms can result from spider bites:

Itching or rash

Chills

Fever

Difficulty breathing

Excessive sweating

Muscle pain or cramping

Reddish or purplish in color or a visible blister

Nausea and vomiting

If you believe that you’ve been bitten by a spider you should seek medical attention from a healthcare professional as soon as possible. Let a doctor decide if you’ve been bitten or not. Spider bites are serious and should be treated as such and it is better to be safe than sorry. We are here to help at 45 Urgent Care. Stop by or give us a call at 731-554-0571.
